    BFC hosted an IR session for a Shenzhen delegation including Qianhai Authority representatives

    On May 14, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) hosted an Investor Relations (IR) session for a Shenzhen delegation, including representatives from the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone. The session was held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Shenzhen delegation included Deputy Director Wen Ping of the Qianhai Authority and 11 representatives from institutions including the Qianhai Authority, Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Qianhai Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, Consulate General of China in Busan, and Busan Chinese Association. During the session, BFC introduced Busan’s industrial, infrastructure, and financial environment, as well as the current development status of the Busan Financial Hub. The Qianhai side presented the Qianhai cooperation zone and its institutional framework, followed by a Q&A session and discussions on potential areas of institutional cooperation.

    On May 12, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) hosted an Investor Relations (IR) session on the Busan Financial Hub for approximately 50 trainees who visited Busan as part of a Financial Action Task Force (FATF) training program. The session was held from 2:00 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. at the BIFC 63F Lounge. Manager at BFC. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is an international financial organization that sets global standards for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) and monitors and evaluates countries’ compliance with these international standards. The FATF Secretariat is headquartered in Paris, France.

    BFC held a meeting on the ASEAN+3 Digital Bond Market Forum(DBMF)

    On April 21, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) held a meeting on the ASEAN+3 Digital Bond Market Forum (DBMF) at BIFC 63 D-Space. The meeting was attended by Heo Gyu-man, an Asian Development Bank (ADB) secondee and senior official from the Financial Supervisory Service, and Yoon Dong-jin, and Ha-young Kim, an Officer of Busan Metropolitan City. Participants discussed the potential hosting of an ASEAN+3 Digital Bond Market Forum meeting in Busan. The discussion also covered recent ASEAN+3 financial cooperation initiatives, agenda items under discussion between ADB and member countries, including the Asian Bond Markets Initiative (ABMI), the Digital Bond Market Forum, and voluntary carbon markets, as well as possible support measures for hosting the meeting in Busan.

During the meeting, BFC exchanged views with the current and incoming heads of FATF TREIN and discussed ways to strengthen institutional cooperation for the development of the Busan Financial Hub.

    BFC met with a strategic adviser on critical raw materials to strengthen global cooperation

    On April 10, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) met with Han Ilhan, Managing Director of Catalis Strategies and adviser to the Chairman of TMK, as part of its efforts to strengthen global cooperation. TMK refers to Uzbekistan Technological Metals Complex, a strategic state-owned enterprise in Uzbekistan’s critical raw materials sector. During the meeting, participants were briefed on Uzbekistan’s investment environment and the Uzbekistan National Investment Fund (UzNIF).They also exchanged views on cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea, discussed follow-up areas for expanding mutual cooperation, and shared relevant networks for future collaboration.

    Meeting with the Busan Office of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea

    On April 10, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) held a meeting with the Busan Office of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ECCK participants included Andrew Millard, Busan Representative of ECCK and Head of the Department of International Relations at Changwon National University, and Manager Kim Yeji. During the meeting, BFC listened to an explanation of ECCK’s cooperation and network structure with European national chambers of commerce in Korea. Participants also exchanged views on Korea’s permanent residency and visa systems for foreign nationals, compared them with European institutional practices, and discussed ways to strengthen mutual cooperation for the development of the Busan Financial Hub.

The session was held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the BIFC 63F Lounge. The session introduced the current development status of the Busan Financial Hub and provided an opportunity to exchange views with the GULP trainees. Through the session, BFC promoted Busan’s financial hub strategy to senior public officials from developing countries and strengthened international understanding of Busan’s role as a financial center.

    On April 2, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) hosted the 17th Busan Financial Hub Forum from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The forum brought together approximately 30 participants, including representatives from policy institutions, financial institutions, academia, and industry experts. The forum covered key issues related to Busan’s development as a financial hub, including a comparative study of financial regulations in Korea and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the current status of Korean shipping companies, and preparations for the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the World Alliance of International Financial Centers (WAIFC) in Busan. Through the forum, BFC provided a platform for policy discussion and expert exchange on practical strategies to strengthen Busan’s role as an international financial center.

    On March 12, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) hosted an Investor Relations (IR) session for a delegation of approximately 25 international business students and faculty members from the University of South Carolina (USC). The session was held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the BIFC 63F Lounge.During the session, BFC introduced the current development status of the Busan Financial Hub, including Busan’s shipbuilding and shipping industry infrastructure, the maritime finance ecosystem centered around Korea Ocean Business Corporation, and the city’s broader vision as a maritime capital combining industry, culture, and lifestyle. BFC also introduced its key functions, including policy proposals and financial hub development strategies, as well as its cooperation framework with related institutions. The session further presented BFC’s overseas networks, including the World Alliance of International Financial Centers (WAIFC) and Z/Yen, and promoted the 2026 WAIFC Annual General Meeting to be held in Busan. The program also included a Q&A session and networking with the delegation.

    BFC visited Hong Kong to attend the Asian Financial Forum

    From January 25 to 28, 2026, Busan Finance Center (BFC) visited Hong Kong to attend the Asian Financial Forum(AFF) and hold meetings with major financial authorities and institutions. The BFC delegation included President Myongho Rhee and Team Leader Chaehee Joo. During the visit, the delegation met with Hong Kong’s Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB), the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) to learn about Hong Kong’s financial policies and exchange views on financial center development. BFC also met with VIFC Da Nang to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between financial centers. In addition, the delegation attended the Asian Financial Forum to review global financial trends and exchange information with financial professionals from around the world.

    WAIFC Young Academic Award 2026 Topics address the most pressing forces transforming the financial system, including the transition to net zero and sustainable economic models, the rise of artificial intelligence, digital assets, and next- generation market infrastructure, the need for more inclusive and impact-driven finance, the development of future-ready financial talent, and the growing importance of geopolitical resilience and cross-border cooperation among IFCs. Submissions should ideally combine academic rigor withpractical insights, offering actionable recommendations that can inform policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, and IFCs worldwide. We invite young academics to submit papers or essays addressing one of the following topics: Climate and Sustainability Finance1.1. The role of international financial centers in financing the net-zero transition1.2. The role of international financial centers in financing the circular economy.1.3. Resources Call-for-papers Handbook Application We will also consider papers on topics relevant to the work of international financial centers but not listed above. Papers must be either unpublished or published no earlier than 2025. An English translation is required if the paper is written in a different language. Prizes The top three finalists will have the unique opportunity to present their research at our Annual General Meeting, to be held in Busan, South Korea, in the week fromSeptember 14 to 18, 2026. The World Alliance will cover the travel expenses to Busan, as stated in theAward Handbook. Our Chair will announce the winner of the best paper and award a prize of €3,000. The runners-up will be awarded prizes of €2,000 (2nd place) and €1,000 (3rd place). Who can enter? We invite young academics from around the world to make asubmission. We are an international organization, and we aim to make this a global competition. The Award is open to all countries, including non-World Alliance member countries. As our focus is on finance, we particularly encourage submissions from Ph.D. students in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or other similar fields to participate. We are, however, seeking new ideas, so a background in any field of study is welcome as long as your paper or essay relates to finance and meets our submission criteria. Submissions are welcome from those in universities, research institutes, think tanks, and other similar institutions. Multiple authors can contribute to a paper or essay, but as we seek ideas from bright young minds,at least one author must be under 35 as of 30 May 2026. How will the winners be selected? We will assess the papers against the following criteria: (1) novelty, (2) topicality, (3) innovative thinking, (4) scientific merit, (5) relevance for financial centers, and (6) practical applicability.
